Goal: To show that students involved in after school programs will have better grades.
|
||||
|
Will students involved in extra curricular activites have better grades in academics and behavior
or will it be the same as those not involved in extra curricular activities?

Needed Resources:

Evaluation:

|
Selecting the 50
students involved
in the study. 25
students in after
school programs,
and 25 students
not in after school
programs.
|
Myself, and a few
classroom teachers.
|
First two weeks of
school.
|
Data to see which
students are involved in
after school programs
and which ones are not.
|
Review the students
involved and create a
spreadsheet to keep
track over the next year.
|
|
Check progress of
all students
involved.
|
Myself, and a few
classroom teachers.
|
At the end of every six
week period.
|
Report cards to check for
behavior grades as well
as academic grades.
|
Record progress of
students grades in
spreadsheet.
|
|
Observe students
in their classroom.
|
Myself
|
Observe every student
twice throughout the
entire school year.
|
Access to classrooms
provided by teachers and
site supervisor.
|
With each observation I
will record my findings in
the spreadsheet with
their grades.
|
|
Conduct a student
survey
|
Myself, along with a
few classroom
teachers and my site
supervisor.
|
Second to last week of
school.
|
Questions for a survey,
as well as students being
available.
|
See what students have
to say about programs
and see if they think it
helps them.
|
|
Analyze Data
|
Myself, along with a
few classroom
teachers and my site
supervisor.
|
Last week of school.
|
All data collected from
report cards and data
collected from
observations.
|
Review to see if students
involved in after school
programs truly have
better grades or if there
is no difference. If
students who are
involved in after school
programs do have better
grades then steps would
need to be taken in
another research to try
and get students
involved who have not
been involved to see if it
improves their grades.

Gunnar,
ReplyDeleteDo you have any questions ready? How big will your test group be? Are you looking at kids in and not in extracurriculars? What is your goal, how will you use this? Your detail is not fleshed out too much. You have a good idea, but the detail seems cluttered right now.
You need to add the followers widget on your blogsite, it's a requirement from Dr. Abshire.
Daniel,
DeleteThank you for your help. I have updated the page as well as my template. I was too busy trying to make the template look nice that I forgot to add all the data. To answer your questions, the test group will be 50 students 25 that are involved in after school programs and 25 not involved. My goal is to see if students who are involved in after school programs have better grades or if it is the same as the students not involved in after school programs. If there is a difference and students involved in after school programs do have better grades then another research would need to be done to test it out and pick students who are not involved in after school programs and get them involved to see if it improves their grades. I added the followers widget. Please let me know if you have any more suggestions. Also, feel free to let me know if the new template needs anything else. Thanks!! :)
Observe every student twice throughout the entire school year seems a lot to take on, time may become a factor you will have to consider. Good idea for the ARP interested in seeing the data.
ReplyDeleteThe plan seems to be very simple and broad. Are you planning on adding more details such as how you will be data collecting? What kind of surveys? How will this convince others to put their children in after school programs? How will you get this information to parents, etc. to convince them?
ReplyDeleteGood idea, just needs some more details.
I love the idea of investigating the relationship between extracurricular activities and academics/behavior. I agree with Terry, that time may be an issue and a schedule/structure for the observation might be helpful. More detail would be helpful as well. Great topic! I can't wait to read about the results.
